![]() I noticed a new mirror on the wall behind Pauline’s desk which she told me she accidentally bid on at the local antiques fair whilst wafting away a rather annoying fly. The room has that slight musty smell that you get in most old churches, a mix of damp and incense I think, but I quite like it. On the far wall is a beautiful stained glass window which when the sun shines through it, creates lovely coloured patterns on the old floor. Old oak shelves house a plethora of books and interesting religious objects passed down through the generations, and a larder cabinet for making tea and coffee stands just a little way off from a small sink where you can wash up your cups. I love the vestry, it’s cosy in winter and cool in summer, if you open the side door onto the balcony a nice breeze wafts through whilst you work. Pauline set me up in the Vestry and we ‘Poodle’ searched a few styles on her computer before I got started. I’m not quite sure what an ecumenical symposium is, Pauline did try to explain that a lot of important mice from neighbouring parishes were coming for dinner to talk about theology, but I didn’t really know what that was either so I just put the explanation out of my mind and got on with the task in hand. It would seem Pauline had organised an Ecumenical Symposium and was in need of someone to scribe 50 dinner table place cards with which to organise her guests before the weekend. Long story short, next day I was off down to the church (it had been Rev Pauline on line 1) with my pencil case and box of inks. “Morris there’s an urgent call for you on line 1, can’t stop, a pipe’s burst in the canteen and it’s all hands on deck to mop up before lunch!’įor Gertrude it was back to busy work as usual, but I was glad of the call as it had been a slow morning on the complaints switchboard, everyone must have been doing their job whilst we were away. It does not store any personal data.I’d barely been back a day when the door of the P.O.Depot complaints room swung open with Gertrude attached.
